LORD,
On this day of inauguration, may your people remember the One whom we declared King less than one month ago:
“Hark! the herald angels sing, ‘Glory to the newborn King!’”
IF on this day we begin to believe that Trump can save us…
Forgive us, Lord, and set us straight.
IF on this day we begin to believe that Trump can destroy us…
Forgive us, Lord, and set us straight.
May this day of inauguration be our own. May it be our new beginning… a recommitment of our call to follow you and to walk with all your people towards a Kingdom greater than any this world has ever known.
You still choose us. We don’t believe it. You still choose us.
May we pledge ourselves today to the office to which you call us as your Church, to be the light of the world, to care for those whom you still teach us to love – the poor, the oppressed, the vulnerable, the sick, the immigrant, the prisoner, the homeless, the sinner, even our foulest enemies.
You are our light and our salvation; whom shall we fear? You are the stronghold of our life; of whom shall we be afraid?
Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory. Forever.
And we serve at the pleasure of our King.
Amen.
